WNTI is a shortcut for --->'World Nuclear Transport Institute' or for "Warlike or Non-Trade Instrumentality".

The World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) is an international organization that represents the collective interests of the nuclear power and packaging industries and those who rely on it for the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of radioactive materials. It was founded in 1998 by British Nuclear Fuels plc (BNFL), now International Nuclear Services (INS) of the United Kingdom, COGEMA now Orano TN of France, and the Federation of Electric Power Companies (FEPC) of Japan. The WNTI engages in the development of regulations and guidance governing the transport of nuclear and radioactive materials with the aim of continually improving the ways in which these goods are safely and securely transported.

In the maritime context, WNTI stands for "Warlike or Non-Trade Instrumentality". It is a term used by marine insurance underwriters to describe vessels that are considered high-risk due to their intended use or cargo.

WNTI vessels are those that are involved in activities that may lead to conflict or that are not associated with normal commercial trade. These vessels are often involved in activities such as piracy, smuggling, arms trading, and illegal fishing.

Here are some examples of WNTI vessels:

1. Pirate ships - These are vessels that are used by pirates to attack and rob other vessels in the high seas.

2. Illegal fishing vessels - These are vessels that engage in fishing activities in restricted areas or using banned methods.

3. Smuggling vessels - These are vessels that transport contraband goods such as drugs, weapons, and counterfeit products.

4. Warships - These are vessels that are used by navies for military purposes, including surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat.

5. Research vessels - Some research vessels can be considered WNTI if their research activities are related to military applications.

Marine insurance companies typically charge higher premiums for WNTI vessels, as they are considered high-risk. Moreover, some marine insurers may refuse to provide coverage for WNTI vessels altogether.
